IDSDP 2026: Nawal El Moutawakel - “54 seconds changed my life and the lives of so many young women”

International Olympic Committee (IOC) Vice-President and Olympic champion Nawal El Moutawakel underlined sport’s extraordinary power to break down barriers and change lives, especially for women. At a United Nations (UN) event in New York on 1 April marking the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP), she described sport as a driving force for gender equality and social transformation.
