Africa Marks Easter With Increased Travel and Calls for Safety

Preparations are underway across the continent to mark Easter, a period of community and spiritual devotion in accordance with Christian tradition. Regional leaders are bracing for increased travel and using the holiday to address national security and safety. In Mozambique, immigration officials are preparing for the movement of nearly 400,000 people across the country's various borders during the Easter holidays. This figure represents an increase of approximately 17,000 travelers compared to the same period last year, prompting authorities to streamline border processing to manage the influx. In Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has traveled to Lagos to observe the Easter holiday and inaugurate several key projects. His arrival in Lagos follows a visit to Jos, Plateau State, where he sympathized with victims and families affected by recent deadly attacks in the region. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia has urged her compatriots to exercise extreme caution on the roads, as the holiday period typically sees a high number of accidents. "Let us use this time to renew our commitment to national unity, reconciliation, and service to our communities," Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
